Biography

Benjamin Cartoon is an Associate Director at B. Riley Advisory Services, where he applies his expertise in auditing and corporate accounting to various engagements. Prior to joining the firm, Ben was a public accounting firm auditor, where he led and reviewed financial audits for middle market companies. He was also a member of the internal audit team for a leading global data, analytics, and technology company. He has experience in forensic accounting, restructuring, bankruptcy, and due diligence assignments.

Additionally, as part of his corporate accounting experience, he has assisted in developing systems to streamline the monthly balance sheet reconciliation process and automate quarterly financial reporting.

Ben's financial advisory services experience includes the development and review of detailed 13-week cash flow projections, product rationalization profitability analyses, and the development and review of a financial forecast based on a business turnaround plan. Ben has developed "make-or-buy" financial models for operational teams, leading to client profitability.

Some of Ben's notable achievements at B. Riley include:

  • Reduced client's financial statement reporting process from 7 days to under 30 minutes using connections to SQL database and utilization of power queries for $150 million manufacturing company
  • Completed buy-side due diligence for $300 million multinational mobile computing accessories company.
  • Conducted a forensic accounting investigation of a $200 million Ponzi scheme and tracing and quantifying the damages for recovery efforts.
  • Performed portfolio analysis for a loan investment that acquired over $1 billion in assets within a year.
  • Developed a cash flow model and store location profitability tool for a $300 million automotive company with 35 store locations.
  • Engaged as assistant controller for a B. Riley Principal Investments portfolio company; assisted controller with monthly balance sheet reconciliation and other month-end close-related procedures.

Ben holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from The University of Georgia and a Master of Accountancy from Georgia State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a CVA (Certified Valuation Analyst designated by NACVA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
